The Full Story
Country Club Shops was constructed and completed in 1957, the oldest strip center in Marion County and one of the oldest in North Central West Virginia. Some of the early tenants were W.T. Grants, Thorofare Super Market, S&H Green Stamps redemption center, a laundromat, Rite Aid Drug Store and numerous others.
The plaza had become rundown and had lost most of the tenants in the 1970s. Local visionaries, Angelo Deiriggi and William Spatafore felt the plaza could be a center for commerce once again if it had committed ownership and decided to purchase the plaza from the heirs of the original owners. They made large investments of time and capital to bring the center up to the standards that were required to be successful in the new era of retail shopping centers. They attracted quality tenants; Big Lots, Rent-a-Center, H&R Block, Dollar General, Say-Boy Restaurant and more that have been mainstays in the community for many years now. Today the plaza is owned and managed by the Deiriggi and Spatafore families. Their commitment and passion to make Country Club Shops a premier shopping center in Marion County is a continuation of the legacy set forth by their fathers, Angelo and Bill.
Country Club Shops is pleased to be an active part of Marion County and provide an outlet for the shopping, restaurants and service businesses that are so desperately needed by the people who live and work here. The community’s continued patronage is greatly appreciated.
